Recently the College and Career ladies at my church finished the Hosea Bible Study. The Book was called, Hosea – written by Jennifer Rothschild. This is a 7 week small grou
p study with weekly homework, group discussion questions, a video for each week and video notes to take.
This study takes a close look at the story of Gomer and Hosea and how their relationship mirrors that of our relationship with the Lord. As you get deeper into the book your find yourself identifying with Gomer; a former promiscuous girl turned pastors wife. Jennifer Rothschild lovingly refers to her readers as ‘Gomer Girls’.
I have often, in my own way, judge the Israelites for constantly turning their backs to God. As you read the account of Gomer’s unfaithfulness you see the similarities of our own unfaithfulness to Christ as well as the parallel of the unfaithfulness of the Israelites – you can’t help but be humbled by God’s unconditional love for His children.
The most eyeopening chapter was the chapter on idols. Rothschild has you take a close look at your life and identify Idoltrinkets in your life as well as show how every idol is related to self-worshiping.
This study reminds us that although we are nothing but sinners, we do not have to be defined by our past mistakes. We are a new creature in God’s eyes and worth everything to Him.
The videos are a great companion but not necessary to get something out of this study.
